🪙 Gold Investment Monitor — Help Guide

Everything you need to read and use your gold dashboard. Written in plain language — no finance or coding knowledge needed.

Contents

1. What this tool does

This dashboard helps you answer one question: should I buy gold today, or wait? It gathers 25 signals that professional investors watch — gold prices, the US dollar, real interest rates, inflation, central-bank buying, geopolitics, and India-specific factors — and scores each one. 17 of them combine into the overall score (the big-picture verdict); 6 more (US bond yields, de-dollarisation, the gold/silver ratio, gold mining supply, the stock market and crude oil) are shown for context only and never vote; and 2 short-term timing signals — the next-day India price lean and the overnight COMEX move — decide whether to act today or wait a day. They are kept out of the overall score on purpose, so one day's price move can never swing the big-picture verdict. Together they produce a single clear recommendation. It refreshes with the latest data every time you open it.

Use the 🌓 theme button at the top to switch between dark and light looks with one click — your choice is remembered for next time. (The separate index-claude.html page still exists, but you no longer need it to change themes.)

2. How to open it

The dashboard is a website — nothing to install:

  1. Open https://canibuygoldtoday.in on any device — phone, tablet or computer. Bookmark it.
  2. Office network says the site is blocked? Some company filters block new web addresses for a while. Open https://gold-dashboard-surendhran-s.vercel.app instead — it is the same dashboard, and it takes you to canibuygoldtoday.in on its own whenever your network allows.
  3. Prefer the warm "Claude" look? Use the 🌓 theme button at the top (your choice is remembered).
  4. Freshness is automatic: the data reloads every time you open the page, every 10 minutes while it stays open, and the instant you come back to the tab.
🔒 If the site shows a Vercel sign-in page, that's the hosting account's "Deployment Protection" setting. The owner can switch it off (Vercel → project → Settings → Deployment Protection) so the link opens for everyone.

3. The "Can I Buy Today?" summary

The dashboard’s tagline, “Can I Buy Gold Today?”, sits right under the title. It is also a shortcut — tap it and the page jumps straight down to this summary (opening it first if you had folded it away).

At the very top you get a plain-English call and a timing table. The headline is one of:

HeadlineMeaning
BUY / ACCUMULATEThe overall weighted signal genuinely leans positive, the price is not in a full downtrend, volatility is known and not extreme, and no near-term dip is expected — today is reasonable. If one minor factor still leans wait (say, a mild downtrend), the stamp names it and says it is not enough to change the call.
BUY SLOWLY / IN PARTSThe overall signal leans positive, but the price is in a downtrend, the market is very jumpy, or the volatility gauge is not answering (unknown is treated as jumpy, never as calm) — buy in parts over days, not one shot. It is also the pullback call (added 23 Oct 2026): when the Kerala 22K rate is 5% or more below its high of the last 60 days while big money leans for gold — at least two of central banks, gold funds and coin demand positive and none negative — and world tension is not easing (since 1 Nov 2026 no single day’s oil or Nifty move can switch this on or off, a missing big-money or world-tension figure keeps the rule silent, and it never fires on a red-verdict day), the stamp says BUY SLOWLY / IN PARTS even inside the Fed window: put in a first portion now (a quarter to a third of what you plan) and keep the rest for after the Fed decision. A new row in the table, Price vs recent high, shows the distance from that high. The rule exists because a trend-following score said BUY near ₹14,000 and WAIT near ₹13,000 while nothing structural had changed. It is not a prediction that the bottom is in — the box says so — and a red overall verdict still beats it. Think of it as cost-averaging: spreading the cost of a dip over a few weeks, not a better entry. Since the 1 Nov 2026 weights most days read HOLD, so this dip rule is the page’s main way of saying "buy some now".
HOLD — BUY ONLY PLANNED AMOUNTSTwo cases. (1) The overall signal is mixed; only the one-day lean is up (world gold rose today, so tomorrow may open a touch higher). That is a reason to bring forward a purchase you had already planned — not to buy more. (2) The stretched-price case (added 24 Oct 2026): the overall signal leans positive — or, since 1 Nov 2026, only the one-day lean is up — but world gold is 8% or more above its own 50-day average, its RSI is 70 or higher, or it sits at a 60-day high after an 8% run in a month. A price that far ahead of itself pulls back more often than it keeps running, so the stamp refuses to turn green: buy only what you had already planned and keep the rest for a dip. The box names the reasons and how far the price still is below its one-year high. This rule exists because on 25 Aug 2026 the page read BUY with gold 11% above its average and RSI 82, days before a 13% fall. A Price stretch row in the table shows the reading every day, and the same stretch counts against the price-chart group in the overall score (twice over since 1 Nov 2026). On a stretched day the box never says "today may beat tomorrow"; it always says keep the rest for a pullback.
HOLD / WAITMixed signals, no strong edge — no rush. On this page HOLD always means buy only what you had already planned, never "sell". It is also what the stamp shows while the world gold price feed is down and no verdict can be computed — the box says so in plain words.
WAIT 1–2 DAYSThe next-day lean is DOWN — world gold fell today, the rupee strengthened overnight, or the Kerala rate is above its world-cost level — so India's price may open a little lower; waiting could get a better rate. On a weekend or US holiday the world market is shut, so Friday's move (already in Saturday's board rate) never triggers this by itself.
DON’T BUY NOWThe overall verdict itself is in the red band — clearly more signals point to gold falling than rising. This beats every other stamp. It is not a sell instruction: hold off on new purchases and keep what you own.
WAITA US Fed rate decision is within ~10 days and the Fed is not leaning towards cuts — it could push gold down, so waiting until after is safer. The stamp lifts the moment the statement is out (23:30 IST, or 00:30 IST in the winter months). When the Fed is expected to cut, this rule does not apply and the Fed row says so. Exception since 23 Oct 2026: a deep pullback with the long-term case intact reads BUY SLOWLY / IN PARTS instead (see that row), with the Fed decision kept as the reason to hold back the rest.

If the world gold price feed is not answering, the Overall card reads NO VERDICT — PRICE FEED DOWN, the stamp falls back to HOLD / WAIT and says why, and the logo lamp stays amber: a verdict built from the other signals alone could point the wrong way, so the page waits for the feed instead of guessing. A small ⓘ line under the composite score also says when any US figure came from a saved fallback or a live signal was missing. If a refresh fails while the page is open, a red line under the stamp says when the call shown was last computed.

The green BUY stamp only appears when the overall weighted signal itself says buy — a single good day can never turn the headline green on its own (that rule came from a full audit of the engine). The table below the headline shows each timing factor — including price swings (volatility) — what it reads now, what it means, and whether it leans Buy, Wait, or Neutral.

Below the table, the 💰 "Selling old gold today?" line answers the opposite question — whether today is a reasonable day to sell (it mirrors the same signals from a seller's point of view; it doesn't change the buy verdict).

Under that sits the 🎯 "Stamp track record" line (it appears once at least ten days' stamps have been graded): every evening the rate-capture robot files the day's stamp beside that day's Kerala 22K board rate, and later grades it against the real rate that followed. For a WAIT-type day (WAIT, WAIT 1–2 DAYS, DON’T BUY NOW, HOLD / WAIT) "right" means the rate three days later (the next day for WAIT 1–2 DAYS) was lower, or steady within 0.15% — waiting cost you nothing; for a BUY-type day "right" means it was higher or steady. A seven-chip strip shows the last stamps and what the rate did next (✓ right, ✗ wrong, ⏳ not judged yet). Saturdays are not recorded because the Kerala board never moves on a Sunday. Nobody picks the sample, so the line can — and sometimes will — show the stamp being wrong.

Below the timing table sits the 📋 Today's Research Brief — a researched second opinion written in everyday language. It shows a one-line verdict, expandable "Why — the cited reasons" (every reason names its source, so you can check the claims yourself), a "Tomorrow & what to watch" list, and a bottom line. It carries an AS OF date: it is rewritten by the automatic daily research run (every evening, with a laptop-side fallback the next morning), unlike the live numbers above it which refresh on every page load. You can also ask Claude to "run the daily gold brief" at any time.

Below the selling line sits 🗓️ "If not today, when?" — other sensible buying windows for people not in a hurry, each with who or what it is based on: the tracked Tamil YouTube experts' current timing view (e.g. Anand Srinivasan holding off while interest rates may rise), the next US rate decision date, the Aadi offers season, festival-planning advice (split purchases rather than buying in Diwali week), and the dashboard's own DOWN-bias days. It carries an AS OF date and refreshes when expert views or the calendar change.

What if the brief and the big stamp disagree? They can — they answer at different moments. The stamp is live: it recalculates from this moment's prices every time you open the page. The brief is a once-a-day research snapshot: if gold moved after it was written, it hasn't seen that move yet. Whenever the two differ (or the brief is from an earlier day), a 💡 note appears inside the brief box explaining which one to trust for today's timing — you never have to work it out yourself.

⚠️ The brief is research + judgment, not financial advice — the citations let you verify every claim.

4. Signal-change alerts

If the overall verdict has changed since your last visit (for example HOLD → BUY), a coloured banner appears at the very top to flag it. If nothing changed, no banner shows. This is remembered in your browser, so it only alerts on real changes.

5. LIVE vs AS OF badges

Every card has a small badge so you always know how fresh its data is:

6. Hover tooltips (the ⓘ icon)

Every signal card has a small ⓘ icon in its top-right corner. Hover your mouse over it (or tap it on a phone) and a bubble pops up explaining that signal in plain English. It's the quickest way to understand any card without leaving the dashboard.

6a. Show / hide any card

Tap anywhere on a card's title bar to hide that card (it collapses to just the title, and the arrow on the right flips to ▸); tap the title again to bring it back. You don't have to aim for the little arrow — it just shows the current state. (Tapping the ⓘ info icon still shows its tooltip without hiding the card.) Your choices are remembered on your device, so cards you don't care about stay hidden next time you open the dashboard on the same phone or computer. Whenever anything is hidden, a "▾ Show all hidden cards" button appears near the top — one tap brings everything back, so you can never lose a card. (Nothing is deleted and nothing leaves your device — it's just tidying your own view.)

7. What each card means

⚖️ Which cards decide the call? Seven cards carry a gold Drives today’s call chip in their heading (added 24 Oct 2026): the Investment Recommendation Summary (the overall score), Fed Interest Rate (the WAIT window), Gold Technical Trend (trend, stretch and RSI), COMEX Gold Lead and Next-Day India Gold Bias (the WAIT 1–2 DAYS branch), Gold Volatility (BUY SLOWLY) and Gold Price — Kerala (the pullback rule). Hover, tap or keyboard-focus a chip to read exactly which branch of the stamp that card drives — a tap never folds the card. The overall score itself is built from 17 signals spread over 15 cards (since the 1 Nov 2026 weightage audit) — exactly the ones listed in the score breakdown of the Investment Recommendation Summary. Ten cards are information only: the MCX estimate, Bitcoin, GOLDBEES and the one-year price history, and since 1 Nov 2026 also US Bond Yields, De-dollarisation, the Gold/Silver Ratio, Gold Mining Supply, the Stock Market and Crude Oil; two feed the stamp but not the score (Gold Volatility and Gold Price — Kerala), two are timing-only signals (COMEX Gold Lead and Next-Day India Gold Bias), and every practical card further down is background reading that never moves the verdict.

Since 24 Oct 2026 the other tiers are tagged too: the 15 scored cards carry a grey 📊 Counts in the score chip whose hover text names the signal, roughly how much of the whole decision it carries, its group and the group’s weight (Big-picture money factors 35%, Gold’s own price chart 25%, Where big money is moving 20%, World tension 10%, India factors 10%), and the ten context-only cards carry a dashed ℹ️ Information only chip whose hover text says why. A card can carry two chips (the Fed and the Technical Trend card both drive today’s call and vote in the score). The chips are checked against the scoring engine by the test suite, so a signal can never be added without its tag.

Cards are ordered by impact rank — the #N chip on each card says how strongly that factor typically moves gold (#1 = the Fed's interest rate, #2 = wars/conflicts, … #26 = Bitcoin, context only, … #28 = India Real Estate). Hover the chip for a reminder.

Cards are grouped by theme. Each shows its value, a short note, a colored status pill (green = supportive of gold, amber = neutral, red = caution), and an ⓘ tooltip.

8. How the overall verdict is decided

🚦 The logo is a traffic light. The gold coin beside the title (and the little icon in your browser tab) lights one lamp from this overall verdict: green for BUY, amber for HOLD, red for DON’T BUY. It follows the overall verdict, not the day-timing stamp in section 3, so on a HOLD day with a WAIT stamp the lamp is amber. Before the data loads it sits on amber.

Each signal scores from −2 (strongly against gold) to +2 (Strong Buy). Scores are grouped into 5 categories, each with a weight:

CategoryWeight
Macro / Rates35%
Technicals25%
Flows & Positioning20%
Risk / Sentiment (world tension)10%
India-Specific10%

The weighted average becomes one composite score, mapped to a verdict: ≥1.2 Strong Buy · 0.4–1.2 Buy · −0.4–0.4 Hold · −1.2–−0.4 Don’t Buy Now · ≤−1.2 Don’t Buy — Prices Falling. The "Investment Recommendation Summary" card shows the full breakdown so you can see exactly why — it's never a black box.

The weights since the 1 Nov 2026 audit. 17 signals in five groups: US money factors 35%, gold’s own price chart 25% (a price far above its 50-day average counts double), big-money flows 20%, world tension 10% and India 10%. Oil, the Nifty, the US real yield, de-dollarisation, the gold/silver ratio and mine supply are still shown, but no longer vote. A group’s vote is the average of its signals; a signal whose live feed fails counts as 0 (neutral) rather than dropping out, and the ⓘ line under the score names it. Central-bank buying and world tension can add at most +1 each. Most days now read HOLD: BUY needs +0.4 or more, and STRONG BUY (+1.2) cannot be reached under these weights — with every signal at its best the score tops out at +1.15 — so the highest call is BUY. The red band (−0.4 or lower) needs the hand-updated figures to turn against gold too: with today’s central-bank, fund and tension readings even the worst automatic day stays in HOLD. A second ⓘ line says how much of today’s score came from hand-updated figures (central banks, gold funds, coin demand, world tension, the Fed’s stance, India’s duty, festivals, household selling and property) and how much from automatic data feeds (prices, the dollar, the rupee and US data — some of them monthly).

🔍 Why the weights changed (1 Nov 2026). Five expert reviews — a macro economist, a gold strategist, an Indian bullion trader, a quant and a household-risk reviewer — each challenged by two sceptics and then by two red teams, found that hand-updated figures were adding about +0.37 to every day’s score, while BUY starts at +0.40. So an ordinary day near a market top could read BUY, and in late August 2026 it did. Replayed over past years, the new weights read BUY on far fewer market-top days in every period tested (1 of 20 top days instead of 10 in 2021–26; none of 6 instead of 5 in July–October 2026), and simply raising the BUY bar on the old weights did not do as well. This is not a price forecast — no setting can predict gold — and the weights were chosen on the same history they were tested on, so the stamp track record is the real test. The overall word can still read BUY at a stretched top; the stamp in section 3 is what protects you there.
🚫 Why the dashboard never says “SELL”. Most readers own jewellery and want to know whether to buy more. When the signals turn against gold, the honest instruction is don’t buy yet, not “sell what you own” — selling jewellery usually loses 4–8% in deductions, which a short price dip rarely makes back. So the red band reads DON’T BUY NOW, or DON’T BUY — PRICES FALLING when the signals are strongly against gold — on those days the stamp at the top of the page reads DON’T BUY NOW too, and the ladder says so. The maths behind the score is unchanged. If you are thinking of selling, read the “Selling your gold” card first.

Two calls, two questions. The stamp in section 3 answers “is today a good day to buy?” (timing — WAIT there means a few days, for a Fed decision or a price dip); this card answers “is gold worth buying at all right now?” (the big picture, which moves over weeks). They can differ — HOLD here with WAIT at the top means “nothing wrong with gold, just not today”. The card itself says this in one line under the OVERALL SIGNAL heading, with today's two words filled in, so you never have to work it out.

9. Kerala gold price, GST & import tax

The Gold Price — Kerala card pulls the actual retail rate live from GoodReturns. It shows:

Jeweller making charges are extra and vary by shop — they're not in this rate. Treat these figures as the metal reference price. See the glossary for BCD, AIDC and GST.

10. Economic calendar

The 📅 Economic Calendar section lists upcoming events that can move gold — inflation releases, Fed decisions, and jobs reports — with a colored impact rating. Use it to plan around big dates (e.g. avoid buying right before a Fed decision).

📋 About "Today's Research Brief" — the brief is written at night by the cloud runner and rewritten after the morning Kerala board rate (its badge shows the time), and between those two it can talk about things that were still ahead at the time ("the Fed decision lands tonight"). If you open the page on a later day, those words would be wrong. The dashboard now catches this by itself: a brief written on an earlier day that still speaks in words like tonight, today or tomorrow morning gets a red "This brief is out of date" banner, its BUY/WAIT word is greyed out and labelled "yesterday's call, now expired", and the daily health check reports it as a problem. The big verdict stamp at the top is always live — it recalculates from current prices every time you open the page — so when the two disagree, follow the stamp.

11. The chat assistant (currently switched off)

🛑 The assistant is switched off at the moment, so the 💬 button no longer appears. Nothing was removed — it can be switched back on whenever you want it. The rest of this section describes what it does when it is on. Every answer it gives also exists on the cards themselves, so nothing is unavailable to you meanwhile.

Click the 💬 button in the bottom-right corner to open the assistant. Tap a suggestion or type a question. It reads the live dashboard and answers essentially anything the dashboard knows:

Answers appear with clean formatting, and when something is genuinely outside its knowledge it says so honestly and lists what it can answer.

This is a free built-in assistant — it answers from your dashboard data instantly, at no cost. It's not a full open-ended AI chatbot; for that (ask anything, real conversation) a paid AI key can be added later.

12. Gold news, market analysis & expert views

🔗 Check any source yourself: wherever the dashboard names a source — a news story, an expert's view, a buying window, a bank's price target, the RBI house-price data, even the GoodReturns rate itself — the source name is a clickable link (marked 🔗) that opens the original article, video or data page. If a source has no link, it means we couldn't verify a page for it — we never link to guesses.

The 📰 Gold News & Insights section carries the recent stories moving gold — especially India (import-duty changes, government appeals, demand shifts). Each has a date, a plain-English summary, and its source — click the headline or the "Source 🔗" link to open the original article and check the story yourself.

At the very top of that card is a "🔴 Latest headlines · AUTO · LIVE" box. These are pulled automatically from the Indian financial press (The Hindu BusinessLine's gold page, Mint and Economic Times) every few hours by a robot on the internet — so this list stays fresh on its own, even when your laptop is off. Under each headline is a one-line summary of the article itself, and clicking the headline opens that exact story on the newspaper's site. The write-ups below the box are the hand-picked "why it matters" stories; the top box is just the freshest raw headlines.

🗞️ India & Tamil Nadu Gold News is the local companion: gold stories from the Tamil press (Daily Thanthi, Maalaimalar, Dinamalar, Nanayam Vikatan magazine articles) and national papers — each with the original Tamil headline, an English translation, a plain summary, and the paper's name, plus a "▶ Watch on YouTube" / "🔗 Read the source" link that opens the actual video or article. This is where clippings like the "50,000 kg old gold sold in 3 months" story live. The dashboard also tracks eleven Indian finance channels for their current gold views (the list below plus Zero1 by Zerodha) — Money Pechu (Anand Srinivasan), Madurai Veeran Money Coach, finance.boosan, P R Sundar, Nanayam Vikatan's daily OBS gold series, CA Rachana Ranade, Akshat Shrivastava (Wisdom Hatch), Behindwoods Air's expert interviews, Zerodha Varsity's educational research and M. Pattabiraman's freefincal (data-driven articles, videos and X posts) — their takes appear here and in Global Expert Views, refreshed automatically each morning. Below the news items, the 🎬 Fresh gold videos list is fully automatic: every time the page loads it scans all tracked channels' feeds live and lists the newest gold-related videos with links — no waiting for anyone to update anything. At the top of this card you may see “📺 Latest gold videos from the trackers” — that strip is filled in automatically twice a day straight from each channel’s own upload list, so you can see what they actually posted and when. That strip shows titles only, and a title is not advice. The write-ups underneath are different: since October 2026 each one is summarised from what the speaker actually said, taken from the video’s own captions. It gives their price view, their reasons and their advice, with the key line in bold, and each “Also from the same few days” video gets a one-line takeaway. Captions are machine-made, so a number is only quoted when it is clear.

Just below it, 🌍 Market Analysis & Outlook gives a plain-English read on where gold stands now: a near-term outlook, the bull case vs the bear case side by side, the India angle, the chart (technical) picture, and a table of price targets from the big banks (Goldman, JPMorgan, UBS, and more). Tap any column heading in that table to sort it — tap "Target" once for highest-first, again for lowest-first; each firm's name links to the article the target came from.

Then 🗣️ Global Expert Views shows what leading banks, investors and institutions are saying — each with a colored Bullish / Bearish / Neutral badge, a short quote, and the source, deliberately balanced so you see both sides. Like the other curated sections, these carry an "AS OF" date and are refreshed periodically. Alongside the global names, this list now carries two Tamil Nadu bullion-trade voices from IBC Tamil’s gold interview series — Jayantilal Challani, president of the Jewellers and Diamond Traders Association Madras (the jewellers’ own trade body, so read his view as trade-side), and “Gold Guru” Santhakumar, the channel’s most-watched gold guest. Since 16 Oct 2026 IBC Tamil is part of the automatic twice-daily scan: the robot searches the channel for gold interviews, so when Anand Srinivasan, P R Sundar, Gold Guru Santhakumar or Jayantilal Challani appear there as guests, the video is picked up and must reach these cards before the daily refresh can finish. As always: titles and dates were checked, but nobody watched the videos.

13. Track record (recent calls)

At the bottom of the recommendation summary, "Recent daily calls" logs the verdict each day you open the dashboard (saved in your browser, last 7 days). Over time this shows how the signal has been trending — useful for spotting whether the tool has been consistently bullish or bearish.

Two further track records are kept on the server, so they do not depend on your browser: the 🎯 Stamp track record under the timing table (section 3 — how often a WAIT day was followed by a lower rate and a BUY day by a higher one) and the Next-Day Bias card's 🎯 track record (section 7 — how often its UP / DOWN call matched the next morning's rate). Both are graded automatically by the rate-capture robot against the real Kerala board rate.

14. Refreshing the data

The dashboard refreshes automatically every time you open or reload the page. You can also click the 🔄 Refresh Data button at the top, or just reload the browser tab (F5).

When you press Refresh, the button shows ⏳ Refreshing…, every card re-fetches fresh live data (no caching), and the Last Updated time — now shown to the second — only changes once everything has actually loaded. If your internet is down, it says so plainly instead of pretending it refreshed.

💬 Feedback: spotted something wrong or missing? Click the Feedback button at the top, type your note, and press Send — it's delivered silently to the dashboard owner (filed privately in the project's GitHub), with a backup copy kept in your browser. No email app opens and no address is shown.

15. What stays fresh vs needs updating

Every card on the page updates itself. There are four ways a card stays current, and since 23 Oct 2026 a test refuses to let a new card ship without one of them (plus a watchdog that reports the card the day it goes stale). Nothing on the page depends on a person remembering to update it.

How it updatesWhich cardsHow often · who checks it
Live — read from the source every time the page loadsFed rate, bond yields, inflation, dollar index, US jobs, US housing, Gold Technical Trend, 1-year price history, COMEX lead, Next-Day Bias, gold/silver ratio, volatility (GVZ), Kerala price, MCX estimate, USD/INR, stock market, crude oil, Bitcoin, GOLDBEES price, Gold Price by State, gold rates abroad (Dubai & Abroad card), and the verdict and stamp built from themEvery page load (shared 60-second cache). If a feed stops answering, the card says so on its badge and the watchdog reports which source is down — never shown as "out of date".
Robot — a small program on GitHub's servers writes a data file; the laptop can be offKerala rate through the day + daily history (3×/day), Next-Day Bias track record and the stamp track record (evening + morning), latest gold headlines (every 3 hours), latest expert videos (twice a day), the freshness banner itself (3×/day)On their schedules (GitHub starts them a few hours late). The watchdog warns if the headline robot is 18 h silent, the video robot 36 h, no Kerala rate was captured by 18:00, or the bias or stamp track has a gap.
Researched on a schedule — figures with no free live feed, verified against the original publisher by the automatic research runDaily: research brief, gold news write-ups, conflicts, India & TN news, expert views, FedWatch odds, calendar, "if not today, when?", jeweller offers. Every few days: US politics & the dollar. Weekly: market analysis, gold fund news. Monthly: central-bank buying, ETF flows, India gold fund flows (AMFI),ETF comparison, GOLDBEES fund facts, route comparison, customs & tax rules for gold bought abroad, gold-loan states, import sources, saved fallback figures. Quarterly: mining supply, physical vs digital, household selling, de-dollarisation, India real estate, the US median-listing line, cost calculator rules, overdraft rates, tracked YouTube channels. Half-yearly / yearly: selling guide, counter checks, storage, tax, allocation, festival dates, how "zero wastage" offers work (its rupee examples are recomputed live). Event-driven: import duty. Each card has a due date in a schedule file; the research run does every check that is due (evening and morning, on GitHub when the laptop is off) and an overdue check forces a run. The AS OF / LOOKED AGAIN badge on the card shows the result.
FixedThe card index, Data Sources & Notes, the educational wording around the figuresChanged only with the code; nothing in them can go stale on its own.

If something still slips, the freshness banner at the top of the page says which card and why (section 17), and the same report makes the research run repair it. When a big gold story breaks between runs, you can also ask Claude to update — it edits one data file (data/curated-signals.json) and the dashboard reflects it.

Auto-tracking the Kerala rate (3×/day)

The Kerala rate is recorded automatically every morning, afternoon and evening, so the "time of day" table and the daily history chart fill in on their own (rows marked ⏱). Opening the dashboard also records the rate for the current time slot — just using it keeps the history growing.

16. Glossary of terms

TermPlain meaning
BCDBasic Customs Duty — the core import tax on gold entering India.
AIDCAgriculture Infrastructure & Development Cess — an extra import cess on top of BCD.
GSTGoods & Services Tax — 3%, added at the shop when you buy.
COMEXThe global benchmark gold price (US futures market), quoted in USD per ounce.
MCXIndia's futures exchange — the domestic gold benchmark, quoted per 10 grams.
DXYUS Dollar Index — the dollar's strength vs other major currencies.
Ounce (oz)The unit world gold prices are quoted in: 1 troy ounce = 31.1 grams. Divide the $/oz price by 31.1 to get the world price of one gram.
Sovereign (8 grams)The 8-gram unit of 22K gold that Tamil Nadu & Kerala shops and newspapers quote in — multiply the per-gram 22K rate by 8.
Real yieldWhat money parked in the US "government FD" really earns after price-rise (inflation). Long treated as gold's biggest driver; since 2022 gold has risen even with it above 2%, so on this page it is shown for context and does not vote — its direction (falling helps gold, rising hurts) still matters on the day.
TIPSUS inflation-protected bonds; their yield is the "real yield."
RSIA momentum gauge (0–100) — here the simple 14-day version (average daily gains vs average daily losses). Above 70 = overbought, below 30 = oversold.
GVZGold volatility index — how big price swings are expected to be.
ETFExchange-Traded Fund — a fund that holds gold; inflows show investment demand.
CPIConsumer Price Index — how much everyday prices (food, fuel, rent) rose compared with a year ago. CPI of 4.2% means what cost $100 last year costs $104.20 now. The most-quoted inflation number.
Core PCEThe US Fed's preferred inflation measure. Same idea as CPI, but it leaves out food and fuel (their prices jump around month to month) — so it shows the steady, underlying price trend the Fed actually acts on.
FOMCThe US Federal Reserve committee that sets interest rates.
WGCWorld Gold Council — the gold industry's research body (funded by the big mining companies). It publishes the statistics nobody else measures: demand by country, central-bank purchases, mine production, ETF flows and India's recycling — via its quarterly "Gold Demand Trends" report and monthly ETF commentary. Several curated cards use its data; its price opinions count only as one voice in the Bank Price Targets table.

17. Troubleshooting

ProblemFix
All cards show "—" or blankReload the page once. If it persists, the data engine is briefly busy — try again in a minute.
A single card says "UNAVAILABLE"That one data source didn't respond this time. Reload — it usually recovers on its own.
The "through the day" table says "No reading yet today"Normal before about 11:30 am — Kerala's board rate is declared between 10:00 and 11:30. The cloud robot and your own visits fill the table in after that.
The site asks me to sign in to VercelThat's the hosting account's Deployment Protection setting — the owner can switch it off in the Vercel project settings so the link opens for everyone.
The rate differs from goodreturns.inReload — the strip pulls GoodReturns' current figure on every refresh. Remember the strip's big numbers are before GST, exactly like the GoodReturns site.

18. The website

The dashboard is hosted free on Vercel at https://canibuygoldtoday.in and redeploys itself automatically within about a minute of every improvement. It works on phones. (Owner and maintenance instructions live in the project's README.md — they're deliberately not part of this user guide.) Privacy: the page has no accounts and sets no cookies; it keeps your display preferences and unsent feedback drafts only in your own browser. Opening it fetches fonts from Google Fonts and the chart library from jsDelivr, the visit counter is kept by the free Abacus service and anonymous page-view counts go to Vercel's analytics — each of those sees your IP address the way any website's hosting does. Feedback you send is filed as a private note for the owner and is never published.

19. Version history

Since 22 October releases are cut automatically: whenever the changelog holds new features or fixes and the last release is at least seven days old, a robot bumps the version, dates it and adds the row below, so the footer can no longer fall weeks behind the page. What changed and when. The running version, its release date and the exact build are always shown in the dashboard footer (e.g. v1.9.0 · released 4 Oct 2026 · build 542846e) — the build code is clickable and opens the precise code change on GitHub, so you can always tell exactly which version of the app you are looking at. The footer also shows a 👀 visit counter — each browser counts once per day, so it approximates daily visitors rather than raw page opens.

VersionDateWhat's new
v1.11.01 Nov 2026Release v1.11.0 — cut automatically from the changelog. New: Rupees beside dollars across the page, a rupee price-history chart, and plain words for BCD and AIDC; How "Zero Wastage" Really Works — a new card telling the story behind the festival no-VA banners; Dubai & Abroad card: five more countries, the cheapest highlighted, and buying tips; Is Gold Cheaper in Dubai & the Gulf? — a live comparison card; Gold Price History card now shows the latest price; Every signal card now says which role it plays: 📊 "Counts in the score" and ℹ️ "Information only" chips join the ⚖️ "Drives today’s call" chip; Stretched-price damper (the mirror of the pullback rule) and ⚖️ tags on the cards that drive the stamp; Three new cards: US Politics & the Dollar, India Gold Fund Flows, Gold Fund News; Higher cache hit rate for the dashboard's data; Pullback rule: a deep dip with the long-term case intact now reads BUY SLOWLY / IN PARTS instead of WAIT; Coverage audit: every card now has an automatic refresh path AND a watchdog; Every card must declare how it stays fresh — enforced by a test; Counter card: five checks and a "Where your VA really goes" breakdown from a Tamil case study. Fixed: "No research run has opened the own website of 7 of the 8 tracked jewellers for 6 days" on the rule's first day — the jeweller-site check now counts from the day step 1 was told to open sites, a page that would not load is "unreachable" not "unopened", and a fresh brief no longer skips the offers step; The GitHub research runner died on its release step every run since 28 Oct evening — seven runs in a row never reached the gate; GRT's Dhanteras no-VA coin offer sat on grtjewels.com for days and was missing from the offers card — the check now opens each jeweller's own site and reads the banner pictures; A video YouTube labels "1 month ago" is no longer forgotten by the ledger the day after it is found; Expert videos found weeks after upload are no longer silently dropped from the "not on the cards" check; A research card's "last checked" stamp now counts only when the run can show what it checked; "A background robot needs attention" on a healthy Sunday — every "did the writer write?" rule now takes its deadline from the writer's own cron plus one measured GitHub allowance; Signal counts corrected on the page and in the help; Video robot banner cleared, and its feed-404 fallback no longer misses Shorts; Video robot no longer goes blind when YouTube refuses its feed; Savings card no longer says making charges can attract 5% GST; Gold Price by State showed yesterday's rates every morning — now read live; Curated learn cards now show when they were last re-checked, and route comparison is checked weekly; The stamp now has a server-side track record; The BUY / HOLD / WAIT stamp is now a tested module; Gold is quoted per "8 grams" everywhere a reader looks; The Overall Signal card now says how it relates to the stamp at the top; Decision-chain audit — 30 confirmed defects in how BUY / HOLD / WAIT was computed, worded and shown; Kerala card showed last night's rate as "today's evening"; the time-of-day table is now a through-the-day list; "Today's brief" quoted yesterday's Kerala rate all day; Full QA pass and security audit — 34 confirmed findings fixed; The cost calculator no longer forgets what you typed; Help guide: duplicate section 11, a section missing from the contents, a mislabelled entry; Footer version and date now update themselves — RCCA.
v1.10.022 Oct 2026The "it runs without your laptop" release. 🤖 The daily research — brief, news, expert views and source checks — now refreshes on GitHub's servers every day, so the cards stay current with the laptop closed. 🩺 The freshness banner tells the difference between a stale card and a data source that is not answering: a source outage shows as a yellow note naming only the affected cards, is checked twice 30 seconds apart before it is shown, clears by itself the moment the source answers again, and never triggers a research run. The robot now tests itself (97 checks) before every cloud check, three times a day. 🌐 New address canibuygoldtoday.in, with the old address kept working where office networks block the new one; the page can now be found by search engines and previews properly when shared. 🪙 The Signal Coin logo lights one lamp with the day's verdict, plus the tagline, stage slides and QR cards. 📍 Gold Price by State — 21 states, cheapest first, refreshed three times a day. 🗺️ Where India's Gold Loans Are and 🌍 Where India's Gold Comes From, from the original publishers. 📺 Expert videos are summarised from what was actually said, interview channels are read too, and nothing the video robot finds can stay off the cards. 🚫 The dashboard never says SELL any more — a falling-price day reads DON’T BUY NOW.
v1.9.04 Oct 2026The "make every rupee count" release. 🏦 New Borrow Against Your Gold card — gold overdraft vs gold loan explained, the top-5 banks' rates side by side, and the RBI gold-lending rules from 1 April 2026. 💡 What Gold Really Costs You — enter a weight, purity and making charge and it works out your real bill on today's Kerala rate, how much of it is not gold, and what you would get back selling it today. 💸 Selling Your Gold — every way to sell, what comes off the top, and why so many jewellers now advertise "sell your gold, get cash". 🔍 Don't Get Cheated at the Counter — the checks to do every time, what 916 really means, and a worked example of a fair vs unfair making charge. 🔐 Where to Keep It — a bank locker is security, not insurance. 📊 Long cards became compact comparison tables that still fit a phone screen, and a 📑 jump index plus ↑/↓ buttons make the long page easy to move around. 📌 After the Fed's 16 Sep rate rise the rate card shows the new rate straight away instead of yesterday's, and never invents market odds. 🕛 A brief that says "today" now marks itself out of date at midnight and is rewritten the next morning, and the "cards out of date" warning clears as soon as a refresh finishes. 💬 The chat assistant is switched off for now.
v1.8.016 Sep 2026The "it looks after itself" release. 🤖 The daily research refresh now runs without anyone at the keyboard — a cloud routine every evening, backed by two laptop jobs and a desktop safety net — and every way it had silently stopped between July and September has been found and designed out. 🩺 A daily card-health check grades every card for age, for content that was "checked" but never actually changed, for past dates shown as upcoming, and for a research brief that says BUY while the stamp above it says WAIT. 📰 The news card refreshes itself every 3 hours and the expert card picks up new gold videos twice a day, so neither can freeze again. 🔍 A 65-agent card-by-card audit fixed 29 confirmed contradictions (Fed odds days before the decision, an ETF chart 74 days behind, CPI computed against the wrong month). 🏷️ Freshness badges read in plain English (LAST CHANGED 13 Aug · LOOKED AGAIN TODAY) and no raw 2026-09-16-style dates reach the page. 📱 Bigger text on phones and the sideways-scroll bug gone. 💬 The chat window can be expanded. 📅 Every chart says what period it actually covers.
v1.7.04 Aug 2026The "where do I actually buy?" release. 🏷️ A brand-new No VA / No Making Charges — Tamil Nadu Offers card tracking 8 jewellers (GRT, Thangamayil, Lalitha, Jos Alukkas, Joyalukkas, Bhima, Tanishq, Kalyan): what's running now with coins listed first, offers that just ended (kept greyed out, because they come back), and a 🔮 "when the next offer is likely" forecast built from each jeweller's past pattern — clearly labelled as an expectation, never a promise. 🧑‍🏫 A new expert-panel auditor (macro economist + gold analyst + India bullion expert) now sweeps every card daily for stale dates and signals that disagree with their own data — added after an out-of-date "After 29 Jul" window reached the live page. 🏦 Fed refresh for the 29 July hawkish hold (held at 3.50–3.75%, 9–3 with three officials pushing to raise), with the outlook rolled to the 16 September decision. 🗞️ News cards now always sort newest-first. 📈 LBMA references added — the world price we show tracks the official London benchmark, plus the LBMA analyst forecast in the price-targets table.
v1.6.023 Jul 2026The always-fresh + know-your-gold release. 📰 A laptop-free news robot now refreshes the Gold News card every 3 hours on its own — pulling from Indian financial papers (The Hindu BusinessLine, Mint, Economic Times), each headline carrying the article's own one-line summary and a direct link — so the news can never go stale even with every device off. 📈 The Technical Trend card gained an RSI momentum chart (0–100, with dashed 70 "overbought" / 30 "oversold" lines) below the price chart. Three new plain-language learn cards: 🧾 Gold & the Taxman (how much you can own, tax-raid limits, sell-tax, gifts), ⚖️ Which Way Should I Buy? (physical vs digital vs ETF vs mutual fund vs SGB, a ₹1-lakh worked example and a long-term pick), and 🧭 How Much Gold Should You Own? (advisers' 5–15% band, why to hold vs why keep it small, and when to move gold into income assets like bonds/SGB). 👆 Tap anywhere on a card's title to hide or show it, remembered per device, with a "show all hidden" reset. 📊 Data Sources & Notes rewritten to list every card's source. Plus daily research refreshes and a FedWatch reprice. The three learn cards are educational and never affect the buy/sell signal.
v1.5.06 Jul 2026The "your dashboard" release. 🪜 "Where are we now" band ladders on 17 cards — every decision band listed with today's highlighted, including the Overall verdict ladder (adversarially verified against the scoring engine). 🏆 New Gold ETF Comparison card: six NSE funds with all-in yearly cost (in ₹ per ₹1 lakh), tracking gap and size; long-term pick (GOLDCASE 0.35%) vs trader pick (GOLDBEES) and a straight "stay or switch?" answer with the tax caveat. 🏠 New scored signal #28 India Real Estate: RBI's house-price index with an 8-quarter history chart and the owner's cities (Chennai, Coimbatore, Bengaluru — honest n/a where no figure is published). 📊 ETF Inflows went monthly (12 verified WGC months + a live "2026 YTD" bar); Kerala card gained a duty-aware 3-month history + daily-captures toggle; Mining went quarterly; Household selling got its yearly bars (with a note explaining why 2025/2026 have none). 🧾 CPI & Core PCE explained in plain words; 📖 "how to read this" line under all cards; bank price-targets show when each was given; "If not today, when?" shows a CHECKED date; per-source update schedule so every card refreshes when its source actually publishes. 🔒 Security hardening (curated text escaping, error-message privacy, feedback flood guard) after a 3-reviewer pass; QA green.
v1.4.03 Jul 2026The honest-call release. 🔍 A 22-agent adversarial audit of the verdict engine: the green BUY stamp now appears only when the weighted signal itself says buy (a single good day can never turn it green); volatility joined the timing table; the inflation signal is capped at NEUTRAL while the Fed leans toward raising rates; the India-parity driver became a real measurement; the one-day bias no longer votes in the long-term verdict; misleading labels fixed ("BUY DIP" on surge days). 🗓️ "If not today, when?" buying windows (expert/event/seasonal/strategy) + the chat answers "when is the best time to buy?". 📺 Expert tracking grew to 9 sources (P R Sundar, Nanayam Vikatan + articles, CA Rachana Ranade + blog/press, Akshat Shrivastava, Behindwoods Air) with Expert Views grouped "Indian voices" first. 🎬 Live gold-video scanner lists the tracked channels' newest gold videos on every page load. 📊 Physical-vs-Digital Yearly/Quarterly toggle with real WGC quarterly data. Score meter, footer build id, FedWatch odds dated. QA: 67/67 checks green.
v1.3.03 Jul 2026The charts + plain-language release. 📈 History charts on nearly every card (dollar index, gold vs its 50/200-day averages, yearly ETF flows, mine production, jewellery vs coins & bars, gold/silver ratio, volatility, Bitcoin, oil, Nifty, GOLDBEES, USD/INR with a "Which way next?" trend read, estimated India ₹/10g — plus bond yields, inflation, Fed rate and US housing when the free FRED key is set). 💡 The Research Brief now explains itself whenever it differs from the live verdict stamp. 🌪️ Gold Volatility upgraded to a 5-level ladder with buying advice per band. 💰 Kerala prices shown as a compact table (24K / 22K / 8 grams × with/without GST) with no sideways scrolling. Every tooltip rewritten for the common man and every section given one; the Overall Recommendation breakdown speaks in sentences ("counts the most… leaning GOOD FOR GOLD") instead of formulas; GOLDBEES ranked #27. Full QA pass: 53/53 checks green on both themes.
v1.2.02 Jul 2026The India + intelligence release. New scored signals: 🏠 Household Gold Selling and 🌐 De-dollarisation/BRICS (IMF COFER), plus 👷 US Jobs with the Fed's next-quarter signal (🔭) in the Fed card. New sections: 🗞️ India & Tamil Nadu Gold News (original Tamil headlines + English) and 📋 Today's Research Brief (AI-researched, cited, refreshed on demand). Central-bank chart restyled to the WGC gross/net convention with data through May 2026 and a by-country toggle. New controls: 🌓 dark/light theme toggle, 💬 feedback (delivered silently — no email shown), hardened 🔄 refresh. Kerala card gained the 8-gram price and a "Selling old gold today?" read. Fixes: blank-cards-on-open bug, ₹0 rows in the time-of-day table, the broken 22K auto-capture, plus security hardening (text escaping, localhost-only local server).
v1.1.01 Jul 2026🌍 Market Analysis & Outlook (bull vs bear case + bank price targets), 🗣️ Global Expert Views (10 named analysts, balanced bulls/bears/neutrals), chat assistant answers in rich formatting, and maintainer tooling (code/security reviewers, QA tester, feature-scoping, doc-freshness checks).
v1.0.030 Jun 2026First release: live + curated signals with weighted 5-category scoring and the buy/sell/hold verdict, Gold Price — Kerala (with/without GST) with time-of-day tracking (3×/day auto-capture), import-duty history, economic calendar, gold news, price charts, verdict-change alerts, track record, hover tooltips, chat assistant, two themes, and this help guide.
